Final Reflective Blog

This class has taught me many things about both writing in general and my specific field that I plan to go into, public education. Paper 2’s research showed me what is most likely to change in the way teacher training happens, they are starting to do on the job training. But all the papers combined, did help me learn more about myself. I believe the biggest lessons are: always start your research well ahead of time and collaborate with peers. They often have new ideas that you’ve never considered and will ask questions that will lead you down an entirely new path that will prove vital to your topic. I also learned that, depending on the topic, it can be very important to use more than one database while researching. For example, I had to use the database Eric; which is specifically for education tools/articles.

The public interruption due to the virus definitely provided some new challenges. The biggest of which was the procrastination. With everything online, being completely honest, there was a solid week or two where I had no drive to do any work. I had to force myself to do my assignments and, obviously, I had to do them in solitude. I couldn’t meet up with friends or classmates to bounce ideas off each other or even to relax. As far as I can tell, the only good thing that came out of this situation is that I no longer had to waste 2-3 hours commuting each day.

As is the case with more or less all schoolwork, keeping this blog felt like a chore, something I was forced to do. However, I definitely see the appeal to writing a blog and how it can be used to communicate and engage in academic conversations with others. I’m considering starting a new blog altogether and will hopefully keep updating it regularly about whatever topic I chose.

In conclusion, this course was very insightful to learn more about both myself and academic workings/research that I can apply to my future classes and career.
